SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION
FIRST RECONCILIATION
Those who approach the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance, Confession) obtain pardon from God's mercy for the offense committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labors for their conversion. ( Catholic Catechism 1422 )
Children will be prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Penance, Confession) and First Solemn Eucharist during a two year process in the religious education program. This preparation will be according to the Sacrament Guidelines of the Diocese of Camden.
After the child is prepared by the Pastor, parents and catechists – all will come to an agreement if the child is ready to receive the Sacraments. It is the custom of this Parish to have the children receive these sacraments in the second grade (level).
FIRST SOLEMN EUCHARIST
As an ongoing sacrament, the sacrament of Eucharist, the source and summit of Christian
life, completes initiation (CCC #1322). It is the sacrament whereby God’s People are
invited to partake of the Body of Christ in order to be nourished and strengthened in Christ
whose identity they assume through Baptism. Thus, with each reception, God’s People
proclaim the Paschal Mystery of Jesus “until he comes.” The pilgrim People of God
advances following the way of the cross “toward the heavenly banquet, when all the elect
will be seated at the table of the Kingdom” (CCC #1344).

PREPARATION AND CELEBRATION OF THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Through the laying on of hands and the anointing with chrism, the sacrament of Confirmation unites the Baptized more intimately to Christ and to his Church by the power
of the Holy Spirit and the sign of the cross. Empowered by the spirit, the graces of our Baptism, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, the fully initiated are enabled to be disciples who
participate in the mission of the Church. This mission includes the salvation of souls and
the transformation of society into God’s kingdom of justice, love and peace. (CCC #1285).
Catechisis for the sacrament is an ongoing responsibility of both parents and parish.
Parents, Pastor and catechists should be able to see some evidence of an active faith-life in the witness of the candidate’s participation in the sacramental life of the Church.
Candidates for Sacrament of Confirmation:
- must be continuous religious instruction, or its equivalent;
- have completed the required number of years of religious instruction exclusive of Kindergarten
- willingly participate in immediate preparation for Confirmation.
